Unable to Close British Gas Account successfully

    British Gas were brilliant when my DM died - no payment required for seven months, account moved to my name (executrix), bills will be sent but no payments taken until final meter reading, and to cancel the direct debit.
    When the flat was sold and missives concluded I had a neighbour go in to take the final readings, leaving his spare set of keys behind in the living room.  He emailed a photograph to me, I contacted BG and the final bill was raised and paid.
    The solicitor acting for the buyer asked for confirmation that the final readings had been submitted and that the local council knew of the new ownership. 
    My experience was smooth. Can't imagine BG sending out meter readers these days and, even if they did, it wouldn't be on the exact day needed.
