Hi.
Not really about value for points. More about the ratio. For most short haul europe flights you require 12,000 miles. To go to the states you require 50,000 miles. The short hauls are normally around an hour long while for example flying to the states is over six hours.
Have a look at BA's redemption calculator: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/ecredeemcalculator/public/en_gb
Re mileage expiry. Your miles remain valid as long as your BA account remains active at least once every 36 months.
For tons of information about BA Exec club have a look at https://www.flyertalk.com. There is a dedicated board about BA and there is an excellent sticky which explains the exec club in detail: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=368179"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

Hi pin, thanks again for your post.
The destinations I am looking at require 25,000 points for a return economy flights plus taxes and other charges. The flights I am looking at are no more than 5hours long each way. Do you think that balances out OK?0 -
have you looked at the option of part cash part miles?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
