What To Look For When Buying A Laptop?

Options
I was just wondering if anyone could give me a few tips on what to look for when buying a laptop. I know that you probably need about 2gb of memory, but what else should I look when purchasing a laptop.

It depends on what you wnat to do with it and what OS you want to run on it. The more info you can give the better the answers will be.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

agreed its horrible and apart from the shiny interface has serious issues.

if you dont plan on leaving the house often then i think 17" screens are a lot more usefull,

the best bet at the moment seems to be the dell vostro 1700, you can spec it how you want but it has 2 hard disk bays so if you only buy using one then you can upgrade it simply later on, it will also take upto 4 gigs ram(can be done for about £50) but unless you plan on running a server why bother.

they were starting about £350 but that was with a celleron, still more than enough for surfing.

2GB isn't necessary unless you're going to be using it for hardcore gaming/wanting to run lots of programs at the same time.

I would say that 1GB is enough for the regular laptop user. Indeed most motherboards nowadays (on the newer laptops at least) allow you to upgrade your RAM anyway.

Just read that you're only wanting it for music and internet. 2GB def isn't necessary then!

Check out Laptops Direct - I got my Acer from there and it was a great price.

    Yes.

I would simply recommend a cheap Acer/Dell laptop to the OP.

Should pick up something for a touch over £300.

and this is exactly apple fanboy speak - doesn't matter what it is, what it looks like or how it performs I'll buy it because of the logo.
