Meter discrepancy after house purchase
Options
Im asking on behalf of a friend. She bought a house as of March 17. The house was previously rented out for years and then unoccupied for half a year. Unfortunately she wasn’t advised what to do in terms of energies. She took reading of gas and electricity 2 days later, March 19. But she didn’t know who was the provider. Later a bill from Eon came to the house so she submitted all readings to Eon who advised they only supply gas. Also she was told the electricity reading she took on 19th is only night reading, she needs to take day reading also. She was not aware the house was on dual electricity tariff/meter., economy 7 I presume. So they took day reading but only as of March 29th. There was also bill from EDF so she knows now EDF is the electricity provider. Issue is the bill( based on estimates) is way off to what her meter reading is, night reading is more or less in line but day reading is off by approx 20k units. That is huge.
The issue is she don’t have her opening day reading at the day she bought the house but only 10 days later.
can you advise what should be done and how the variance will be dealt with?

She needs to talk to EDF and give them what readings she has. Is their estimate of the day reading too high or too low? Is she confident she has read the meter correctly and not got the wrong number?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

The estimate on the bill is too low, something like 9,500 and she has 27,000 on the meter. She is not confident about the readings, this is a digital meter, with only one display. One reading has letter T and other R I think.0

There will be 3 readings R1 R2 and T. I think your friend has submitted T instead of R2Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Did she contact the former owner? What was his final reading he submitted?0

There are no previous readings, the agent didn’t take, was relying on her I guess.0

But I think she took the readings wrong

I think it all makes sense if the T is the total and not day.
But I still don’t understand why would she have dual electricity if she has gas? Is that common?0 -

So what is on the other register? Is it 9518?
What are the estimates on the bill she received?0 -
R2 is same number as R
