Just to clarify, since paying back relative you definitely went through the process of updating the Deeds and removing relative? Obtaining agreement, signatures, maybe even involving solicitors?0 -

We've gone along and not given the deeds a second thought and are now mortgage free.
My husband has been diagnosed with terminal cancer so we are now trying to get all paperwork up together as we don't know what the future holds.
Would it be better to get the property put into both names now or leave it as it is?If these are the relevant facts - the house is in his name and mortgage-free - then I would get your name on the deeds as 'joint owners'.If the rest of the estate is small, you may not need probate because you will automatically become the sole owner of the house.An extra thought - if he has money with the NS&I like premium bonds, it would be worth moving that because they often require probate.2
