Sorry for not updating you on the outcome of this! It took them quite a while to get back to me and it turns out (as one poster suggested) I'd inadvertently opened an additional current account rather than a savings account and therefore it wasn't due any interest.

I confused the matter by giving it the name savings account which made me think otherwise. On the basis that the customer service agent didn't (as would have seemed reasonable) immediately pick up on this and instead opened an investigation into it I was given compensation of an amount a bit higher than the interest I missed out on.
Good result!  I did something similar when I opened mine, as there was an issue with the app whereby the option to open an actual savings account did not appear.

    That resulted in receiving compensation.

Harsh - I don't see any ranting, although OP was understandably frustrated at Chase's lack of responsiveness, even though the root cause was OP's own fault, as they accept, although they're probably wincing at an early post:

The consumer pays ultimately. No free lunches in this world.

The point being that, for the OP, the wild goose had a touch of gold.

What % of people managed to open an account with only 1 selfie and 1 photo ID on the first  attempt?
    Fairly high I imagine - I did.

There are a handful of people that have reported issues - but in the numbers that have likely joined chase I'd envisage it to be a fairly small percentage, maybe even miniscule. If something affects 500 people out of 50,000 applicants, 500 people is quite a lot - but as a percentage of 50k - it's only 1 percent.

Opening a Chase account was extremely simple. I thought FD regularly saver was more convoluted. You wait days with no email confirmation, then a text, then it appears.
