Rant about my stupidity with a V5!
So in June last year I bought an Ex Demo Kia from Kia Grantham. Fast forward to now and circumstances have changed and I need a change of vehicle. So I have put a deposit on a different Kia from a different garage and had agreed a PEX against mine. So I need the V5 to trade it in. It turns out that Kia Grantham 'forgot' to send the V5 off and I only have the green part. You would assume they should do this and not forget. In addition I should have checked the post etc. but I forgot as we were moving house. So I need to re-apply for the V5, thankfully FOC as I have the green part. The issue is now that the dealer I am buying from does not want to wait the 'up to 12 weeks' DVLA are quoting and want me to buy the car outright. That's fair enough and luckily we can cover that with savings. However for me the issue is that I will have to keep paying the PCP on the first car and keep it SORN'ed on the drive whilst all this is sorted. Grrrrr so angry with myself.

Why is a main dealer 'sending off' pieces of paper?
Its 2022, change of ownership has been done on line at point of sale for years.

I did query that when I called them however they state that they need a copy of the V5 to be able to do that...daveyjp said:Why is a main dealer 'sending off' pieces of paper?

I suspect the problem lies therein. It maybe wasn't as "ex" demo as you might like.Exemplar said:So in June last year I bought an Ex Demo Kia from Kia Grantham. Dealer is often not allowed by the agreement with the manufacturer to sell demo vehicles until a certain time elapsed. Sometimes they sell and then process the change of keeper later when the required age is reachedExemplar said:

As in the dealer you bought it off of should have done it online with you in the showroom prior to handover. You would have then got the new V5 in the post (usually back in days when done this way), no need for the original dealer to send anything in the post.Exemplar said:

You would then be able to sell to the new dealer without the need to send anything off as well.
That boat has sailed though, so you will need to get the V5 for the vehicle in order to be able to sell it on.0 -

Grrrrr so angry with myself.Possibly it was one of those cars that the dealer gets at a heavy discount- but is not supposed to be sold for a year? They get around this by not registering the vehicle to the new owner until the year, or whatever term the manufacturer stated, is up.A bit naughty, but not illegal and it happens.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Just wondering who paid the VED on the car, you or the dealer. Or was tax even paid at all. If you taxed it then it should have been registered to you.1

I doubt the police will touch it - they will likely treat it as breach of contract and describe it as a civil matter...[Deleted User] said:
