BA rejecting part of my flight cancellation expense claim on "EU" rules

I am claiming taxi fares for going to the airport fruitlessly because my flight was cancelled, and returning home, rather than staying in an airport hotel (which would have been considerably more expensive!). I returned the next day for the rescheduled flight.

They have only agreed so far to pay £50 of the £70 claim because "however as per EU legislation we can pay you only £50.00 per day for transport".

Has anyone heard of this "rule" and if so is that a correct interpretation of it?

from other forums I have seen that BA do cap taxis at £50.
was this £35 home and £35 back again?

If it was £35 home then £35 back the next day, that is within the limit of £50 per day.

I paid £35 to go to the airport and £35 to go home once they had cancelled the flight. I then paid £35 to go back the following day.

So I should argue that the first taxi was legitimate for me to pay, but the one home and the return the following day were my additional out-of-pocket expenses.

Yes, those are the two that they caused you to need. The first one to the airport is not covered because you would have had to pay it anyway.

So they should pay you £35 for each day.
