Tax free childcare

Hi 
Im hoping someone might know the answer as I don’t know where else to ask or look. Im at teaching assistant working two days a week I earn £585 per month before any deductions. My 17 month old goes to nursery one day a week which costs £194 per month and I normally pay this through the tax free government account. I have a message from them saying the need to check my income as it looks as though I do not earn enough. Myself and husband have changed his tax code so that I take someone of his income (marriage tax code) will this be added to my income so that I can earn enough to get the tax free childcare would anyone know many thanks

Marriage allowance doesn't give you some of his income. It gives you some of his personal tax allowance so you pay less tax.

Tax free childcare is dependent on your earnings. Nothing to do with tax allowances or codes. So , no, that won't increase your income.



 For example, over the next 3 months you expect to earn at least £1,976 - the National Living Wage for people over 23.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like you do earn enough.. it needs to be £1976 in three months so £658 a month. I expect they have contacted you as it’s the end of the tax year.
