What I do should a smart meter give me?

Hi
I am looking for some advice please.

I have a smart meter installed in the past 18 months from shell energy.

The shell energy app linked to my account (electricity only) shows half hourly kWh usage the following day. This cannot be downloaded (I have asked customer services a couple of times).

I have recently been manually taking the kWh usage per half hour and entered this into a spreadsheet to see how much money I am spending per half hour.  I have an economy 7 tariff so the rate changes during the day.

i have done this for a few days now and what I am being charged by shell is around £1.50 more a day than what I am calculating (including the charge).

I have asked shell to advise me of their half hourly calculations to see if I am doing anything wrong.  I have been advised that the information in the app is inaccurate and therefore shouldn’t use this information. Shell are unable to provide me any granular information saying I can have the total I spend each month and that is it.

surely, by having a smart meter, I should be able to get reliable hourly/half hourly by having a smart meter. Anyone else had the same experience or are shell an oulier in providing this info

    It doesn't.
    The night rate usually kicks in around midnight and the day rate returns after seven hours.  In some areas there is a two hour day rate interval during the night so the day rate returns after nine hours.
    But the night rate is unlikely to extend much beyond 0830 at the latest, so there will be no rate change during the day unless the meter's clock has drifted significantly.

    I don't have a smart meter so can't help from personal experience, however, a few people seem to recommend this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.hildebrand.brightionic&hl=en_GB&gl=US or no doubt others are available

    Are you allowing for VAT ?
    Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    We don't know what the bill is, but that would be a lot of VAT

    @cat16966

    Can you give us some examples of the numbers you are using, and the Shell numbers you are comparing?

    Download the free App BRIGHT and you will see your 30 minute data and cost. If you want this data in real-time then you need to purchase a Hildebrand IHD/CAD. This is my gas data for yesterday. Hildebrand is a Registered Other DCC User so with your permission it can legally access your smart meter data.

    Caveat: the cost figures will only be accurate if your supplier has sent the correct tariff information to your meters. IHD cost information is NOT used for billing.
