Disabled Bus Pass without PIP?

Has anyone managed to get a Disabled Person's Bus Pass without being on PIP?  I am applying for PIP but I know how long this process can take and I'm desperate to get out of the house more.  Also, I doubt my GP would provide a letter.

It depends on the criteria of your local authority and what proof they will accept.
So while I don't get PIP mine will allow a GP letter/ form filled in by GP as proof of my difficulty with walking, which is how I get mine.

You will need to look at the criteria for this from your local Authority. All areas are different. Even with a PIP enhanced mobility award this doesn't qualify me with my local Authority. My daughter has a bus pass because she has a learning disability and this qualified her. Her Enhanced PIP mobility didn't.

My council accepted my Blue Badge (which itself I originally applied for and succeeded a couple of years before I applied for PIP).  Your council should have their criteria clearly on their website.

I believe it also depends on the condition - for instance my understanding is that epilepsy that prevents you from getting a driving licence will entitle you to a bus pass without reference to PIP or local council.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I think you’d still have to get the bus pass from the local council.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Probably - I meant the local council may not have rules saying you aren't eligible.

You've brought up a good point about eligibility regardless of PIP.  The statutory provision is detailed here from page 13 onwards https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/919050/eligibility-review.pdf
I don't know whether there is a more recent version though; this is from 2013, presumably drafted to include reference to PIP.

(It does include epilepsy if the neurologist/specialist confirms that one would be denied a licence if one were to apply.)

[And as an aside, this document also makes reference to walking speeds; I've never found anything for PIP but it seems the 'substantial difficulty walking' category for bus passes and Blue Badges is assessed in much the same way as PIP, so may be useful.]
