Can I ignore letter from Trace Debt Recovery?

Hi, got issued with a parking charge notice (not a penalty charge notice) back in November 2020 for parking in Waitrose carpark from a private company (can’t remember it’s name). I ignored it as have always been told they are not enforceable but now I have received a letter from trace debt recovery asking for £170.
Can I ignore this letter too or can they enforce it & make me pay?

Britannia Parking are at Waitys.
You cannot ignore these. I wish people wouldn't ignore private parking charges. We haven't advised that (except in Scotland) for almost a decade.
You end up in a far more scary and time-consuming situation and could have killed it at appeal, had you come here then and read the NEWBIES thread.
Trace can't do anything but Britannia will use a robo-claim legal firm to sue you, unless you are in Scotland.
Fully defendable - and Waitys can still cancel it so try that immediately (Head office CEO email).
Read the 4th post (ignore Trace) and then the 2nd post (defending a claim) section of NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST.
No paying it. No-one pays £170. But please stop ignoring these.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

My dad has also received a letter from trace debt recovery but we live in Scotland, so is this still enforceable or should he be paying the £160??0

Probably, but you need to start a new thread of your own with some more information for us. Dealing with two separate cases can result in advice becoming confused, and this is very likely to happen given that your case is in Scotland, whereas the thread starter's case appears to be in England/Wales where things are somewhat different.karent29 said:My dad has also received a letter from trace debt recovery but we live in Scotland, so is this still enforceable or should he be paying the £160??Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

And (just to be clear) we don't mean 'probably' that ANYONE should be paying!
Why not just search the forum for Scotland? It's been discussed completely, hundreds of times, and is already covered in the NEWBIES FAQS thread.
Albeit the private parking law in Scotland is changing soon - but that's not for this thread.
We assume this OP is not in Scotland but either way, the NEWBIES FAQS thread already covers everything anyway, and my signature below tells new posters where the hyperlink is, at the top of every page.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
