Linux USB Automatically sign into wifi?

I have Linux Mint 20.3 Mate on a USB drive so that I can see if I could ditch Windows on my laptop.
So far Windows wins.
Every time I boot I have to manually connect wifi and install any programs and files I need.
I tried making it persistent using Linux Live but as far as I can tell that did not work.
Is there a way to automatically sign into wifi and keep any installed programs or files or am I sticking with Windows?

Is that basically saying ... if you want persistence then create the USB "Live" drive with persistence? And if you haven't done that then no amount of fiddling will make it work - just start again and make it persistent?Jenni x0

Try running it in a virtual machine, you'll get a better view of how it all works. Wifi should work fine, as should everything else.

Or even dual boot

A dual boot installation seems like the sensible choice to me. Before live CDs/DVDs and USB sticks that's what we did and there were no issues with persistence.

In the past I have created a custom live Linux USB using a free program called (from memory) Remastersys.
Once I had downloaded the various programs I wanted and configured the Linux they way I liked it then created an image which could be made into a bootable USB (or DVD) etc.
Worked fine but that was a few years ago.0 -
I bought a new 32GB USB 3 drive and installed a different version of Linux mint using Rufus 3.7 and now when I boot to Linux it retains the wifi settings.
I still prefer Windows 11 though.
