british gas billed me then lowered the bill just in time for price hike

Really upset so please bear with me. I was billed around £250 after warm home discount for gas/elec 19th March. I sent meter readings 31st March.  Haven't been able to log into british gas until today so went to oay the £250. Suddenly my bill has been reduced to £175 theyve rebilled me. So my next bill will all fall under the doubled price rate.
Why is this even legal? If they sent a bill dated 19th March why are they allowed to change it 2 weeks later. I sent meter readings like everyone did for next bill.

Was your bill on the 19th estimated? If so, they will have revised it when you gave readings on the 31st.

Yes, your next bill everything will be charged at the new rates.

You have now given them a new meter reading, and because of that they have reduced the bill. Most likely they have overestimated you and have corrected this.

Why should it be illegal that you are charged for the energy you are using at the rate that is valid at the time you use it?

You did send the reading so that you are charged for everything that you used at the old rate, and after 1st of April at the new rates.

You lost out here as they overestimated you, but if you did see that in the bill, why did you submit a reading?
