While not a pre pay card.
Have a look at Starling bank & their connected card.
While it does require a app to use. As it would be a account in your name & the connected card would be your sons.

There is a far greater risk of card fraud than someone hacking your online details. Only way that happens is by people not following banks advice.

Hello everyone. Just a quick update to say I did buy from the Post Office even though they do charge £3 each time you top up in Sterling (free in FX). Face to face is more convenient for me, call me old fashioned, but I did look into the suggestions & Starling bank who told me I would need an app, so no good when I just use a basic mobile phone.
So a big thank you to all your suggestions. Have a good Easter or Passover.   Heather

I would open a basic account such as the co-op Cashminder  (comes with with a debit card), no overdraft, and no monthly charge. There's not even a credit check on the account.
Then use the debit card just like a prepay card, you can take the card to the Post Office and top it  up   (everyday banking)
For this there is no charge, either for the account or topping up.
