Howdens Doors cracking

I have two internal doors from Howdens which are less than a year old. They both have started to crack on the surface. Is this normal, can it be treated - sanded and glossed?

it probably can be treated and fixed, but it might end up costing a lot. what I would do is complain to Howdens and see what they will do about, it's less than a year old it should have lasted a lot longer than that

Do the doors open against a radiator?

No, neither next to a radiator
  • For a company that specialises in kitchens and doors, Howdens doors are pretty poor!
Is this a factory finished door or did you paint them yourself?

Why are you not speaking to Howdens to get the doors replaced? Surely the doors are covered by a guarantee

    Howdens will replace.
Looks like the wood may have been damp or contaminated surface before the paint was put on. Alternatively painted and not properly dry and a victim of steam and then the cracks appear over time.

Did you paint or was it ready painted?

Btw, it's the paint that is cracking

So why don’t you rub it down, undercoat and gloss. As factory primer isn’t much protection.
Howdens will swop it, do you have an account
A thankyou is payment enough .
  • Howdens Are pretty good with complaints and I would be surprised if they didn’t replace them however it’s unlikely that they will cover the cost of hanging the new doors.
If you repainted the doors would they blend in?
