Definitely bad advice to leave the heating on, can you invest in a good quality control system like a Hive or a Nest.Check in your airing cupboard and ensure there’s not an electric immersion heater on.
Hopefully you haven’t go a hot tub on in the garden?2 -
The is no need to sit in the dark with LED bulbs, you can even get 1w bulbs for the bed.The immersion tank being accidentally left on is a common problem, Do you still have old 300w - 500w outdoor lights?

Hi, I don't really sit in the dark, just meant no light is left on if no-one in that room as is what I used to do, I don't have a tank & new outdoor lights that only come on if someone at the door
Thanks0 -
No items like hottubs, tropical fish tanks, fans, electric heaters, immersion heaters etc
I've also reverted to heating being switched on & off , thanks1 -
When you can go round the house turn everything off except fridge freezer and broadband router and see what your usage in watts is on your smart meter.
As an idea we run at about 100w background usage with the fridge freezer indoors running, the freezer in the outbuilding, the broadband router and our best WiFi system.

Unfortunately some factors are stacked against you and you can't do much about them. Being in North Scotland means colder and darker winters, and you have the second highest standing charge for electricity.Might be worth doing the Meter Sanity Test. As it's a house there's less chance that you're paying for someone else's usage, but the kettle check would give some peace of mind.1

The easiest way to save gas is to turn the boiler flow temp down to eco or around 55c and see how low you can go with the house still getting warm, 1c per day for the boiler to condense, If its a condensing boiler? You will likely need to rise it in real cold snaps, just remember to reset it after.

I already reduced my boiler to 55c for heating & 54 for water1

This should only be done if it's a condensing boiler, personally I think 60C is the lowest to set it. You also have to factor in the price of electricity to turn pump as the boiler will be on longer.
