The Simpler Energy tariff is a variable tariff, so will have increased considerably since September 2021.  Your current prices are likely to be somewhere near the price cap - Unit rate: 28.34p per kWh, Standing charge: 45.34p per day
Yep I put the incorrect rates earlier! electricity rates are 20.77p unit rate and 23.30p standing charge

We moved in 17th September 2021 when the reading was 16379. Then in October I have a photo of it being 16423. 20th December was 16633. 12th March 2022 it was 16880. So since we have been here 6 months we’ve used 501 total. We’re on the Simpler Energy tariff with a unit rate of 4.18p and a standing charge of 26.12p.

    London region, then?
Assuming you use 1000kWh/yr, your electricity bill at the pre-April rate would be £293/yr, rougly £25/month. On the current cap it will be £413/yr, £35/month.

Thanks for all the responses! We still get our Gas from SSE on a separate account so this dispute just concerns Electricity.

They originally gave us a projected use of 6881 kWh per year at a cost of £382.87 and since this incorrect reading in October they have readjusted our projected cost to a ridiculous £4002 per year for 18860 kWh of usage. Even when considering the rise in costs, there is no way 2 of us are using that much electricity and OVO have acknowledged that. It’s important to note that when I’ve spoken to the care agents on the phone they have agreed that we aren’t even using £38 worth of electricity a month.

@jbuchanangb I wasn’t too sure if refusing the direct debit could result in me being given a poor credit rating?
All figures above seem to relate to gas, projected use, projected cost and tariff data. Are you sure that your meter readings are for electricity, or are they also for gas?

What was the estimate reading for October?

If it's any consolation I had the exact same thing.

Logged onto my SSE account last December - was migrated to a new OVO account with new login details

Logged on to OVO and saw that SSE had created a final bill with 'estimated' readings that were £500 higher than the actual readings (despite having  a smart meter)

Thus my opening OVO bill was £500 too much.

Sent an email to hello@ovoenergy.com and asked them to raise  a 'meter dispute case' which they did and 4 weeks later it was sorted out.

There was an incorrect reading produced in October which was extremely high and doesn’t fit with the other readings I’ve manually submitted.
Those meter readings are almost unbelievably low, what was the 'incorrect' reading and was that shown as a meter reader reading?

This is just for electricity usage, no gas included :) the meter reading in October was 28018 which I believe must have come from the previous tenant once they’d left the property.

Just so we're all 100% sure on this, can you share a photo of your electricity meter with the current reading?

Unfortunately it was a BIG mistake not to read the meter yourself.  You may well have paid for some of the previous occupant's usage or for a void period.

Was about to ask for the same, 1000kWh/year is a steady use of only 114W 24/7/365, it is a base load many would be pleased to have over night but as an average for the year it just feels too low.
