It's crazy not to heat your DHW overnight on cheap rate if you have E7. A properly lagged immersion heater tank will stay warm all day. Set the timer to come on a couple of hours before cheap rate ends, that should heat a full tank up.
Any heat that does escape serves to warm the property in winter anyway, so it's not wasted.
The problem with 'seasonal switching' is that you don't know a) when exactly you will need the NSH's back on and b) you don't know how long they will take to switch you between E7 and single rate.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

So, checking out the standard variable rates as they are now:
    Standard:
    33.07p per kwh

Standard variable should be in the region of 28p. Are you on some type of fixed rate?

OP says there is no timer.

I'd check to seek if the immersion is switched by the meter, failing that I'd ask the landlord to get a timer fitted.

If there is an electric shower fitted can you switch off the heating element and use the hot water tank instead?

That would be unusual for an electric shower; usually they are cold-feed only. Switching to hot-feed would require plumbing work.

In this case just a timer for the immersion heater will not help much.

Using a kettle for some hot water to wash up will make more sense here.

Seems to be a strange setup to have hot water by immersion heater and an electric shower, when are you supposed to use the water in the tank?

Can’t see any company willing to change you over twice a year. Yes they can do a totaliser so you don’t need a meter exchange but what happens if we have a cold snap after you’ve changed to standard. For the difference in price don’t think this is really cost effective. Also your responsibility to contact them to get it done, what if you forget.
