Ecotricity & price cap

Options
Hi ive been with Ecotricity for many years. its always been a little more expensive (£3-400) but ive stuck with it as I believe its an active way I can contribute to the future. However, in Nov, Dec .... I started getting bills of average £3-400 p month. I live on my own and im pretty frugal with energy use, turn things off, use a jumper before heating ect. This is an impossible rate to continue. I cant find anything online to help and all the comparison websites haven't updated the rates. Whilst the price cap is 28p the Ecotricity price is 33.5p. So a considerable uplift from the cap. They are now predicting my annual cost will be £4000. its usually around £1200. ANY HELP tips guidance greatly appreciated, and Martin it would be great to hear something on this from you. As I say all the comparison sites aren't either including Ecotricity or have a very old rate of 21p. Many thanks

Ecotricity is around 15-20% higher, depending exactly where you live in the country (SVR varies by region) so there will certainly be a saving to be had by moving to another supplier's SVR.

Moving to another supplier's SVR will saving you around 15-20% depending on your exact usage, you can find your annual kWh figures on your bill.

The comparison sites do not work at the moment. Some suppliers (BG and EDF I think) will currently let you transfer to them via phone only, but you might not be able to get through at the moment. Octopus will let you transfer over to their EV tariffs. All will seemingly let you transfer over to a fixed rate, but these are 30-60% higher than the SVR.

The price cap is a bit over 28p (varies by region, see the links in my signature) so Ecotricity are roughly 5p/kWh more expensive.

Please can you tell us your Estimated Annual consumption (it should be printed on your latest bill) and full detials of your Ecotricity tariff. Are you dual-fuel or electricity only? What is your standing charge?
It's likely that you'll ne able to make a small saving by switching to a less-green supplier but, going from the information you've shared, you could still be looking at an annual cost exceeding £3000.

Welcom to the forum! You might want to delete your duplicate post on another thread, as you're having to look in two places for answers.
Some comparison sites, such as Cheap Energy Club on here are working, but many suppliers are only offering expensive fixes considerably higher than the Ofgem capped standard variable rates. Other comparison sites are available. ;)
Worth a look though if you are finding the premium you are paying for green energy is a bit too much.

You can join EDF at the capped SVT rate, but only if you call them.

    Some questions here.

    1. did you submit regular meter readings / do you have a smart meter. Do the invoices show that they are estimated or do they match your readings
    2. what tariff exactly are you on and what region are you? The EDF price list shows much higher prices than the 33.5p you are quoting for their SVT (37.89 to 40.12p)

    3. How much electricity have you used last year? What was your old tariff?

    4. You did not mention it at all, do you have electricity only or also gas? If so please also give  the information for gas.
