First time home this week cheapest energy price
I am having great trouble signing up for an energy company at my first time home. Everybody says go on a variable contract but the current suppliers are only offering me a 2 year fixed term contract but it is double to triple my parents package cost!!. Any suggestions. Ringing them is not an option as I have spent 4 1/2 hours trying to get through since Monday. Any help greatly appreciated.

You have to sign up with whoever is the current supplier. If you can't get through on the phone then write a letter. Give your meter readings and say you want to be on the variable tariff.1

Welcome to the forum. As t0rt0ise says, your home will already have an incumbent supplier. When you move in you will be supplied by them automatically, and will be on their "deemed" standard variable tariff (which you can stay on, don't let them try to persuade you otherwise). You should try to find out who the current supplier is from the seller / landlord / agent since it may not be immediately apparent. When you take possession, take meter readings (including the water meter, if there is one) and ideally agree them with the seller / landlord / agent. You can then contact the incumbent supplier and give them your readings. If you really can't contact your supplier, write to them or email them or Twitter message them (etc.) or just wait until they write to you asking for payment.N.
