No Ayelsbury duck. The sink was wrong - not compatible
The unit you bought is made with a recessed basin in mind but a counter-top basin can be fitted as they are not supplied pre-cut-out so it will easilly accomodate one. It's floor standing so the height is fixed.

I've read both threads and it sounds like a 'perfect storm' situation.

You bought the items yourself and it seems like you bought the furniture and the basin from two different suppliers - if you'd bought the basin from the furniture supplier then I'd expect them to question your choices/ pick-up your mistake.

Unless you've bough some totaly incompatible items such as a back to the wall toilet pan but a wall mount cistern frame the installer will assume that you've mixed and matched to make your own design.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.
  • OP height of the sink would probably help to advise whether service was carried out with due care and skill.

Is that correct, though?  By not cutting the recess out, the counter-top sink you bought is compatible, isn't it?  If they weren't compatible, they wouldn't fit together, but that's not how it's described.

Given the ambiguity involved here, this could end in a number of ways.  The best course of action is surely negotiation with the fitter to see if they're willing to share the cost of making things the way you want them?  I can't see that they're entirely to blame here, and the root cause of this is your decision to buy your own fittings, rather than trusting the expert to supply and fit.

Who designed the bathroom? What did the plans show in regard to the sink/vanity unit?
