Bike repair - 2 weeks no bike and no communication

Options
Hi,

asking a question for my partner. He arranged for a bike service 2 weeks ago. The bike repair company used to have a shop where they did services, but since the first lockdown they moved everything online and last year came round to our house and did the service in the van while he waited.

This time, the mechanic came round in his van but took the bike away with him saying he would email when it was ready. Partner has a receipt.

Trouble is, its now been two weeks and no sign of the bike. The only way to contact the company is via email, and they are not responding at all (spam folders checked etc).

Today I checked on companies house website, and the company went into liquidation in 2019, which was all wrapped up in Jan of this year. I phoned the local company who handled the liquidation and they said that the bike repair company were bought out in 2019 and it was presumably the new owners that we are now dealing with. I couldn't get any more information from them.

The trouble is, is that the mechanic who picked up the bike two weeks ago, and has his photo and name on bike website, is the same guy who is listed as company director (company that has been liquidated), and there are no details I can find anywhere of any kind of new company or new owners at all. The bike service website is not helpful, no phone numbers, no address, very generic title (Bike Services - Kent), that doesn't come up on search of Companies House. It's as if the new company just doesn't exist. All of their social media stopped posting new stuff about a year ago.

Tomorrow I am going to go down to their old premises, as apparently this same guy has set up a photo studio on same premises (again - no mobile number, just email contact), and see if I can find him and ask him what is going on, but if I have no luck I'm wondering what the next step is. I'm thinking it is probably reporting to the police? Any advice gratefully received - and sorry if that was hard to follow!

Hopefully there has just been a delay in obtaining parts to repair the bike.  Many bike parts are manufactured in China and there have been long delays in deliveries.  It was so bad that the problem even made the main news some time ago.
