Electricity usage busiest time 2AM?!?!
Options
I have economy 7 but all my night storage heaters are now off. Any ideas why my busiest time of usage is 2AM? Could it be the immersion heater? It's very very old & I can't see a timer on it.
This is usage from yesterday as an insight....
01:00 = 0.01kWh
01:30 = 1.52kWh
02:00 = 1.557kWh
Rest of the day 0.05-0.1kWh
Thank you
D

That looks right for an immersion heater.

Do you use all the hot water during the day? Ive turned my immersion off over night and I put it on for 1 hour when I get up in the mornings and theres enough hot water for the day.

well, I can shower & do my washing-up before the 08:30 economy 7 finishing time!
Q: Will it make a lot of difference to do that? does the immersion constantly heat up throughout the day?
Thanks!0 -

Q: Will it make a lot of difference to do that? does the immersion constantly heat up throughout the day?Your immersion heater should ideally be on an Economy 7 circuit that's switched by the meter so that it can never use the expensive daytime rate. Sometimes there's a cheapskate solution whereby a local timer shadows the E7 times. That can be problematic if the meter times are not what you think they are, or the timer drifts, e.g. because of power cuts. However, this does give you the option of a daytime boost if you run out of hot water, although at daytime rate. There may also be a second immersion heater halfway up the tank on a 24h supply, again intended for a daytime boost to get half a tankful of hot water in emergency. Make sure this is not left on accidentally.2 -
Is it a clockwork timer om the meter, or tele-switched? If the former, has the time drifted out by some hours, which it commonly does?No free lunch, and no free laptop1

That is a perfectly valid E7 time, usually older teleswitched meters though.
