Vodafone price increase during 24 month contract

Today I received an email from Vodafone saying that my broadband contract price is about to increase by nearly 10%. This is a 24 month contract taken out a few months ago. I don't recall anything on the Money Saving Expert site or the original Vodafone terms and conditions warning that this would happen.

I talked to Vodafone over a poor connection and was eventually told that my contract would not increase in price. The only explanation for the email was that it was sent to all customers but only applied to some of them.

Having read https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2022/03/vodafone-price-hikes-inflation/ I would particularly like to know where I can see, or obtain, written confirmation that my monthly payments will not increase during the 24 month term?

It’s generally in the contract (you may have to go online to see a copy that applies to your deal) for a rise of CPI + %. Quite common in telephone and broadband contract terms and conditions.
I know your contract isn’t new new, but the screenshot below is what it says on their Broadband deals page now.

  • Why was I assured it would not apply to me?

Because the call-taker probably misunderstood your query or didn’t know enough about the terms and conditions of the service you are on.

I don’t think you will find this as it’s likely the price increase condition I posted above applies to your contract.

I don't know of any Vodafone mobile retail contracts that do not have the DPI+% yearly increase in them and if you had that email then it would suggest your contract is not an exception. I assume this is not a business contract?

Sounds like the agent was getting mixed up somewhere. You will need to go back to them and if it for some reason is exempt then get it in writing.

The only other thing I can think of is that you are not to get this years increase because you took out the contract after the cut off date. You would then not get an increase this year, but would next April.

Even so, it seems she gave you incorrect information. Now you have some differing views you probably just need to go back to them again, or accept that there are generally price rises in these sorts of contracts.

Same applies to broadband, it is a standard term in all retail broadband contracts and has been for a number of years now.

The screenshot I posted was for broadband.

It appears to be a growing trend but it does not apply to all contracts.

It is a pity that this site and some suppliers to not make the situation as clear as they could.
