Removing alias from credit file

Hello,
So me and partner have a joint account with Monzo which we used to pay bills. Neither of our salaries were paid into it, we literally just used it for small transactions, we don’t share any other finances together.

unfortunately a CCJ has wrongfully been placed on my name as of January 2022 and is visible on my credit file (this is how I found out about it altogether). I have applied to have the ccj set aside and removed from my credit file and it’s very likely that I’ll be successful BUT just incase it doesn’t, I want to remove my partner as an alias on my file.

I have closed the account, and we aren’t married. I have now written to Check My File to ask them how to remove him as an alias. But in the meantime I wondered if anyone had any advice on how to remove the alias. He historically had brilliant credit history, and I really don’t want this ccj to affect him for the next 6 years when he is innocent and has no part in this.

any advice? Maybe I need to say we’ve broken up, or no longer living together?

Thanks

He's not an alias (unless you're using his identity as your own, in which case stop it) but a financial associate.

If you no longer have any joint accounts, then you can disassociate via the CRAs. You don't need to pretend to have left him or killed him or anything.

Unless you are using his name then he is a financial associate, not an alias.  Once you have closed any joint financial products you have you can file a notice of disassociation.  There is no need to claim that your relationship has ended.  This is about financial links - not your personal life.

With respect to the 'wrongfully placed' CCJ - do you mean that the defendant is not you?  In that case a set aside is not the proper course of action.  You need to inform the creditor and the CRA that this has been placed on your file incorrectly as you are not the individual named in the judgement.

Oh yes sorry, an associate, not alias haha.

on the ccheck my credit website I can raise a dispute about the association. It asks whether we still live together, the answer is yes, we are currently temporarily living together at his parents house. I am wondering if I tick yes, it will lessen my chances of having this changed. It then asks if we keep our finances separate, the answer to that would be yes. Neither of us have updated our electoral register to be at this address as we don’t intend to vote whilst living here so didn’t see the point. I’m wondering whether to lie and say we don’t live together or whether to take the risk and say yes:-/

regarding the ccj, it was sent to an old address and I had emailed the claimant to tell them I had moved. they were replying to me on email about data protection matters, in response to me saying “I have moved address and I’d like to start paying again” whilst sending claim forms to an old address. So I applied to have it set aside under various points of CPR 13. Interestingly my name is double barrel, and they did actually miss part of my name on the claim form but i didn’t think this was a strong enough case so left it out of my application. I sent it 2 weeks ago so hoping to hear back this month. I am currently drafting my defence as the claimant refused to consent and seems to be building a case against me, I will post it in a separate thread.

Don't lie on anything to do with credit. Fraud is rarely as much fun as it looks on the TV.

Sharing an address, or even a bed, doesn't create an association (although it may create children), so just be honest.
