It does seem to be confusing.  The energy saving trust calculator puts me totally off the idea whilst the numbers quoted here seem to be much better.  if you listen to a solar salesman he/she will tell you it's better than a bread slicer AND you can power the damned thing as well !  Those that are on the early high FIT are doing well whilst the latest are poor.

Markin.  I am planning to outlive her but if I go first she will sell up and move into a flat or care home (I have already been told that) so any benefits will be lost.

Benny --- You need help !  Use the 3 kW to make a cup of tea and some biscuits and relax. ..Mowing wet grass is a total chore

How much Kwp are you looking at getting? Which does your roof face?
If 4kw then the most pessimistic numbers i can think of would be using half of it and saving £560 a year (2000kwh x 28p)

Then of course you can sell the excess at 4p? a kwh on the SEGS scheme.

I ran outside and mowed my lawn when i saw a gap in the clouds this afternoon, that kind of obsessive.
Max of 3.72 kw being generated this afternoon and i can't waste it.
Yes you have to learn to build your life around solar a little bit, washing machine on when the sun's out, etc. I've cut my grid electricity usage by over 50%.

My only 2 realistically useable roofs face roughly east / west.  I cannot put it on the flat south side wall of the house or on the garage flat roof (propped up) without getting planning permission which my neighbour would probably object to  .  My biggest electrical load is anytime from lunchtime to 10pm so I put in the west facing roof as the one of choice.  I would think 4 kW max is probably the limit as I am not sure but I think the limits were 4kW before restrictions kick in but they might have changed the rules..

There's no reason you can't use both. I have 6 panels on the front, west facing, roof and 4 on the rear so I can generate power through most of the day.

It's worth checking if your local council is signed up for Solar Together as it can significantly reduce the installation cost.

That is higher now with some of the suppliers, 7.5p or thereabouts.

My wife says only on the back. of the roof.  Written in stone !   No chance on the front as it spoils the look of the house.
