I heard it is possible to use WiFi for mobile calls in the areas with weak mobile signal (how exactly?). I wonder is it possible to use WiFi the same way while abroad in roaming? Are there any British mobile operators which support that?

I'm on EE, and I've got the option on my phone, so when I'm connected to a WiFi network in the UK, the phone will use the WiFi for calls and text messages, regardless of the 4G signal.
There might be restrictions (e.g. Vodafone supports that only on specific phones), and some operators are still not offering it.
AFAIK it might not work abroad.0 -

AFAIK it might not work abroad.Voda support if on any phone that supports it. No resetrictions. Same for all but the VMO's as far as aI know (but they always bring silly resrictions which may or may not inconvienence you anyway). Not that I have looked it up but I would expdect it to be supported from anywhere, becuase you could quite frankly tunnel it back to your home network if you were so enclined. But who knows companies like to charge more for things that cost no more becuase people think they are different.(never tried it, never needed to!)As for regardless of the 4G signal. No I certianly do not experience this. It often tries to use the network that will drop calls rather than wifi becuase phones make the call. You picking uop the phone could degreade to 4g to a point it will not work and the phone has no had long enough to realise this. I sometimes have to put in airplane mode and enable wifi to get around this. Such will it be in marginal covereage areas which you might not notice if you are not in one. And it certainly will use 4G even if you select prefer wifi option becuase the option was misnamed and changed in later os versions (no change in functionality). So to OP, yes all the real operators do, the others who knows. You will need a fairly recent smartphone to do so. I use android 12 but that is me and I'l sure much older versions did but I dislike the older versions ;-)
