  • Thought Plusnet was always cheaper than BT?   Just had a look and BT is expensive. Also noticed a lack of ADSL, seem
to be quoting fibre only (maybe because we have had fibre for a long time now)?

Really? I have BT Fibre 1 and pay £3.76/month. Line rental paid upfront equals an equivalent £22.75/month for line rental and fibre.

You can't really compare your legacy deal, at what was probably a promotional price, with the current price for the OP who is a new customer.
BT's current price for new customers is £27.99 (24 months) for Fibre 1. However Ofcom say 'the actual speed that BT Fibre 1 customers get is just 35.7Mbps, which is in fact lower than the advertised speed for BT Fibre Essential. The upload speed of 9Mbps is also the same as BT Fibre Essential.'

Plusnet's current equivalent offer is £23.99.

Just for comparison, my equivalent deal with Vodafone is £18.

Hi I made a decision to change provider after realising that some providers have broadband packages cheaper for those on benefits. I checked on my broadband account to see if I was still in contract. On my log in screen it stated I wasn’t in contract. So I started the process to BT. Received an email from plus net( current provider) saying sorry I’m leaving, as I’m still in contract I will have to pay the remainder of my contract at £199. So shocked at this as my log in screen said different. I then rang then and they said that was an error. They can’t offer me the same deal BT is offering me. I can either stay with them and cancel BT or pay the contract off. I’m autistic and my brain just doesn’t like the situation I’m in. They are refusing to budge on the decision. Or help as I now want to go to BT. I feel like they have me chained to them. I also have issues with memory, multitasking, I get overwhelmed with the many things I have to remember etc. all doing this on my own with autism, trauma, nightmares and depression
They haven't "chained" you to them, you entered into a contract with them.   That you don't remember when it ends doesn't change this.

Plusnet is a subsidiary of BT so it's all very ridiculous. I used to be with BT but their renewalk was too high so I went to Plusnet. Told BT about the difference and asked them to match it - nope!

However, you have to balance up whether it is overall cheaper to pay your way out of your contract and enter into a new one vs stick with the old one until it terminates.

I’ve been with Plusnet for many years and they’re absolutely fine, even when things go wrong.
Staff always friendly and helpful :)

Can't disagree that TalkTalk consistently come out at the bottom of satisfaction surveys. This is not the case for Plusnet. They have dropped a bit in the last couple of years where they were consistently top 3, but still int he top half of the tables in pretty much all of the surveys.

  • Oops, Fibre 2 not Fibre 1!

I renewed in December for the Fibre 2 package with line rental paid monthly for £19.99 a month.

So your £22.75 a month seems a bit high considering that paying line rental up front should presumably give you extra savings?
