My gas bill
Hi,
as like millions of others my gas & electricity suppliers went bust & I was pushed on to the main suppliers.
I was originally with Ebico, they only charged for the units of gas I used, no standing charge. I am a super low energy user, my gas bill for a quarter would be £1.70.
I am now with EDF, I got my first bill from them in March, it came to £26, of that I used 2 units of gas costing 87p, over £25 in charges. I like many others submitted my readings last Thursday, I have not used a single unit of gas since my last bill, with the 54% increase I'm expecting my next bill to be around £40, for absolutely nothing.
I dread getting the electricity bill form British Gas in the coming days. & even happier times to come in the Autumn.

Do you have gas central heating?0

A gas bill of £1.70? Is it worth the bother? Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!1

Yes I do have gas central heating, I choose not to use it & £1.70 is far better than what I'm being ripped off for now & worse to come.0
-
The simplest thing to do then is to ask EDF to remove your gas supply. If you use gas at all then you pay the standing charge.0

I don't use anything for heating, a kettle for washing up, the £1.70 is the cost for showering.0

So, whose going to be the first discover this is a cu ft to m3 issue?
OP: Could you share a photo of your meter and a copy of the gas line on your latest EDF bill?0 -
He has a total usage of £ 0.87 for the last two month, 2 units of gas = less than 25KWh. Do you really think it should be only 8KWh?razord said:So, whose going to be the first discover this is a cu ft to m3 issue?

There is not much you can do here. The standing charge is the same, no matter if you are using 1KWh or 10000KWh per month.Muz3TA said:I don't use anything for heating, a kettle for washing up, the £1.70 is the cost for showering.
In theory you can get your gas meter disconnected and the standing charge will be removed, but that means it will no longer be your decision to heat or not to heat your flat. Also you would need an electric shower which is even more expensive than gas.
Do you own your flat, otherwise your landlord might not be happy with you disconnecting gas, and also they might have an issue if you don't heat. Some rental contract will even state that you need to make sure that you heat enough so there is no mould.

As far as I can tell there are no tariffs available without standing charges now so the only options you have is to suck it up or have the gas disconnected and switch to electric for everything unfortunately. I don't think it's that difficult to disconnect your gas and sounds like you aren't actually using it anyway. Get an electric shower and you no longer need gas.Muz3TA said:Hi,
