CreditStyle Avro debt letter April 2022

Hi

We left Avro Energy in May 2020 and always paid by DD. As far as I was aware I'd paid up any final charges by DD.  I've received a letter today (as I know others have from the quick googling I've done) trying to reclaim an outstanding debt of £37.19. This is the first I've heard of this debt and although it's not a massive amount, am reluctant to pay for a debt that I don't feel that I owe.

Anyone else had this letter? Any advice what to do?

Thanks

Did you receive a final bill and can you prove using your bank statements that you paid it?
  • I got same type of payment demand in post this morning (for £29.58).  I was also on a DD payment scheme.  I left Avro March 2021, using the supplier switch through MSE energy club thing-o (eventually - it had a bug initially, but quickly sorted).  I did some digging this morning as my first reaction was "WTH?!".  Avro were absorbed by Octopus.  I left the DD running (as advised), and on checking my bank online this morning, the Avro entry had changed name to Octopus - but zero payments (as expected).

Credit Style seem to be legitimate from what I can determine in searches, but the fact I had left my DD available for any final payment to Avro and still get this demand letter makes me very suspicious.

CreditStyle tried this on with us former Tonik energy customers. Looks like they've decided to move onto different prey.

If you're not on the open register then send it back to them "Not known at this address" . Many of these letters are sent to "The Occupier" as they don't know who lives at the address.
Someone please tell me what money is
  • We're in the same boat, but we left Avro at the beginning of December 2018. We left the DD in place at the time and cancelled it when the move to Octopus was complete.
25th March 2022 we got a letter stating we still owed them money. The sum of £69.03. Some quick research indicated that this was a scam, since they'd gone bust at this point. In fact, the letter states that they've been appointed by the "Joint Administrators" but no mention of their name.
A second letter at the start of April, again threatening as they do. 26th April brings a letter from Lantern stating that we've been referred to QDR Solicitors for the sum of....wait for it.....£1,149
I have emailed the Administrators, asking them if they have indeed instructed these shysters to act on their behalf. If they have, and they can prove there is money owed, I will pay the disputed amount directly to the Administrators.
    This really should be illegal.

I'm not commenting on the legitimacy of the letter you received, but Avro had not then or indeed have they now 'gone bust', they are still in the administration process, so do not rely on that to determine if the letter is a scam or not...

Fair enough. My point is that I'm perfectly happy to deal with the Administrators, if that is the case, but not these conniving threatening shysters who vastly inflate the amounts due to "costs".

The only problem you may have is that if the administrators really have sold off the debts, which is not unusual, then they cannot deal with them once sold, but they may be able to at least confirm that the debts were sold...
