Cancel or Change Flights Yourself

For European football nights, sometimes fans pre-empt where their team is going to play by booking flights in advance of the result as the cost saving is enormous in comparison to booking the flights after your team has got through and 1-5,000 fans then are looking for the cheapest way to get to Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid etc.
For airlines like Ryannair, Easyjet, Jet 2, KLM, BA etc.  1) Can you book a flight and then cancel it yourself and what do you lose/what does it cost you 2) Can you swap the flight to another destination, using the value to offset that cost with that airline?  Again is there a cost?   I could not find any information on the forum for this.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to that, as it varies according to the ticket fare conditions - the more expensive fares will allow flexibility to change without extra charge, but most don't, especially the lower cost budget airlines, so you need to check the terms associated with any specific booking, including any temporary concessions around pandemic travel, most of which have probably been reversed now....
