Tax refund paid to accountant

Options
This year I've been fortunate enough to qualify for a tax refund on both my business and personal accounts.
When returns were submitted by my accountant, their bank details were entered for the repayments.

The refunds are worth a few hundred quid, how long should I expect to wait before receiving the funds?

Asking here as I'm a bit embarrassed to ask my accountant (it's only a small amount relatively speaking).

Thanks in advance.

We had a refund - the accountant emailed and asked for bank details to pay it into ... so, I did!

    Why be embarrassed to ask?

A few hundred quid isn't a small amount to me.

Why are you embarrassed to ask your own accountant for your own money? You're paying them to do a job so they should be doing it, waiting be blowed!

    Aka, don't wait.

  • It's your money and I assume you pay your accountant so... ask for it.

It surely depends on how quick HMRC repay it to the accountant.  They're not going to repay you until they've got the money.  At the moment, HMRC are very haphazard, sometimes refunds take a week or two, other times a month or two.

I also try to appear as if a few hundred quid does not matter to me, even though it really does and at one time it would have been the difference between taking an annual holiday or not taking one.

To save blushes I would ask your accountant indirectly by asking them what way does a this refund from HMRC work and slipping in a question as to how long will it take.
