Our old energy company went bust and we were transferred to BG. Since October they have sending sending then reversing bills on almost a weekly basis. We were apparently in credit of over £600 but now in debt of almost £400. Can BG do this ... keep changing the bills ? I am so confused and concerned ... they now want £84 a week which is just unaffordable for us (we both work .. family of 4 at home). Any advice on what I can do please ?

As it's a mistake then yes, they can do it, as everyone can. Obviously they shouldn't, but mistakes do happen.
If your current usage is unaffordable you need to look at cutting back, either on energy or elsewhere. You can also speak to BG to see what other help they could offer.0 -
OP it's unclear whether you think the £400 owed is correct?
If it is then they will increase the DD to chip away at this and slowly get you back to zero.
If they've given you conflicting information you can raise a complaint and they might offer some goodwill, I can't see them wiping £400 but they might offer £50 or so which is worth it for an email. They might also agree to reduce the monthly DD to take the owed amount over a longer period.
I don't mean to be patronising
but it's best to give meter readings once a month to try and keep on top of what you are using. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Have you been taking meter readings? Even with a smart meter a change of supplier might mean they are estimating.Life in the slow lane0
