Car Insurance - HastingsDirect

Hello to all - and to whoever could assist, thank you.

We have a HastingsDirect Car insurance (YouDrive) for our daughter, my wife and I.

Recently in January this year 2022, our daughter had an accident and we have to purchase another car. We requested for another YouDrive tracker for the new car back in February. This tracker did not arrive and HastingsDriect has cancelled our car insurance on 1st of April, and we have to take out and pay for another car insurance with them.

Would anyone knows how to proceed further? I have spoken to  various call handlers - most of them helpful, but we are stuck.

Many thanks,
Mr & Mrs Chin

Did you chase the non receipt of tracker?
Did you claim on the car insurance of the accident? Or just buy another car & not tell Hastings that there had been a accident & needed to insure a new car?

  • Hello there,

Yes, we did call on 20th February to HastignsDirect having the new car registered. And at the same time, asking for a new tracker to be sent to us. At that time, we were told that this would take some time for it to come through to us.

Thank you for taking your time.

Might be wrong but is not the insurance for *a specific vehicle*.

When it is written off then you start again which is why they cancelled your policy.

Most companies will let you change the car as long as it's within a certain timeframe. (Having written off a car only an hour into a new insurance policy, I know this (yes they did ask a lot of questions but since it was black ice in January and the car landed on it's side with the passenger roof caved in there was not much to contest on their side unless they though me insane!))

I would have expected it to be chased every week or 2 or even 3 just to show willing though. Talking to them they may well re-instate it if they see it was not sent out and not yout (to OP now) fault.

Did the previous YouDrive policy have an end date of 31st March so it has expired and not renewed or did they 'cancel' it before the end of the term?

Is the car currently insured with anyone?
