Gas Reading... Does this look right to you?

Options
I'm a little lost with what this means to be honest but it doesn't look right to me at all - does it you? How can that be the right consumption going off the previous readings?

Their system might have gotten a bit confused as the reading done on the 31/03/2022 is lower than the estimate don 26/03/2022.

    Correct should be 2024 - 1660 = 364 units, which is around 4077KWh.

The bill  should show the correct value.

I suspect that, because the actual reading on 31 March is less than the estimated on 26 March, they think you've gone 'around the clock'.

    Welcome to the forum.
Becsuse the new reading is lowet than the previous one, the computer thinks your meter has gone around the clock and, rather than using a handful of units, you've used 99990-ish.
It should get sorted out automatically but if it's still showing like that in a few days, contact your supplier.

Your latest reading is lower than the previous (estimated) reading, maybe that's why?

OK, I can see now what happened. The system assumed that as you used 102024 - 2063 = 99961 units = 1,119,563 KWh.

Their system does not cater for a wrong estimated, so instead of the real 2024 it calculated by adding a sixth digit.

The small difference is because I just the 11.2 for conversion from m3 to KWh instead of the exact formula.

Firstly, thanks for the welcome and all the replies!

So I've called them and to be fair, they were excellent in their response. They spotted the error and have removed the "estimate" reading which was causing the problem and it's now showing correctly... 10/10 for customer service.

@QrizB - your explanation helped me a lot - thank you for this.
@pochase - nice math skills!! You was pretty much bang on the money.

  • Hi, I've just looked at my British Gas meter readings and I have the same issue as you. However, I am on a smart meter so all my readings are automatic.  For the last few days, the smart meter monitor has not been able to connect so I can't see consumption details at all. Are BG having some sort of crisis ?!

Anyone with a smart meter could email their supplier giving them the gas reading but if they wanted use the full amount of figures displayed on the meter with the figures before the decimal point in black and the figures after in RED and clearly state that the figures include the figures after the decimal point in RED.
Someone please tell me what money is
