Cheapest place to check car prior to purchase

Looking for cheapest place to check a car prior to purchase. Thinking of things like if it's HPI on it, been written off, stolen, etc...

Do you want the cheapest or something reliable?

Don't forget those checks probably wont tell you a car has been in an accident and poorly repaired by a friend of a friend for cash.
You should get it inspected if you don't know what to look for.
