Incorrect amount registered by Hitachi Finance

We had some home improvements on a 12 month interest free deal with Hitachi Finance, as was. The amount borrowed was 3k and I only did it to put that amount in a fixed 1 year account to gain a little extra interest, wasn't worth the bother really. So the account now shows on my credit file, but for an amount of almost twice the amount I have borrowed. It seems they have added the initial amount, plus the expected interest if the loan exceeds the interest free period and runs its full course. Before I send off my letter to them requesting them to report the correct amount and not the "expected" amount, I just want to make sure i'm right in doing so. I am sure I must be as I currently do not owe that amount and never will, even if I go into monthly payments as the amount would reduce every month.
Thanks

No, they are correct.
They have to report the capital+interest for the full term - pretty standard stuff.
Your letter of complaint will make no difference to this.
As you make payments, the reported balance will decrease.1
