We are on gas for heating, we are both on blood thinning meds so...
Just thinking out loud
Radiator (foil) blind between radiator and wall
Radiator shelf to force heat outwards
What about a small fan to blow heated air out into the room (to circulate hot air)?

Foil does seem to work looking on the web and is cheap. Cost of shelf may never be returned in monetary value.
If fan is electric powered then unlikely to save in gas for heating what you use with the fan.
We have a heat powered fan on our multi-fuel burner but doubt the radiator gets hot enough to make these work and they aren't cheap so again unlikely to be a good return on investment.
Individual electric blankets seem the best way to keep warm and good instant heat when temperatures drop that way you can be cozy when not moving and keep the temperatures down.1 -
The fan idea crops up from time to time. A fan (suitably positioned) does increase the heat output from a radiator, indeed you can buy radiators with integral fans. But this is not free extra heat, if the heat output from a radiator is increased then that forces the boiler to work harder or longer to match the increased demand. So the fan may cause you room to warm up faster and might help a room that never gets warm enough but it won't save you any money - in fact if it makes the room warmer it could cost you money.Reed3
