Standing charges rip off

Hello,
How come Aveo can charge us £0.48 per day (electricity) and £0.28 (gas) daily standing charge ?! That double compared to March. Surely this shouldn't have anything to do with the recent energy increase, they're using the same bloody grid as before ?! There is a different standing charge depending on where we live as well.
Some companies are allowed to fill your pockets just because they're in this energy industry while the consumers can't do anything about it!

Thanks for the link, I'm not convinced by their explanation but what else can we do ?! They can play their cards as they want and we have to accept it.Ultrasonic said:
French only had a 4% increase and UK who praises itself having renewable energy increased it by 54%.1 -
Absolute rip off indeed. They're probably quite aware people are going to be drastically reducing their comfort to reduce consumption at these unit rates and need a way to keep filling their pockets even with lower demand.

French have bucketloads of Nuclear power stations generating many Megawatts of electricity. Thank Edf for spending lots of our money building them.

No energy company went busted recently so the customers moved over shouldn't be that many. If there is a cost for that...I'm not convinced. To double the standing charge cost just for maintaining the same energy grid looks like a rip off to me. Only because they can and the government doesn't care, they live in a parallel world.D924 said:Absolute rip off indeed. Only part of a much bigger picture. EDF is being forced to buy in and sell electricity at a loss. Causing the French Government to step in and bail the company out. Taxpayers ultimately foot the bill. Magic money trees remain in short supply. Macron is fighting a Presidential election as well. Politicians renowned masters of deception.kokolino23 said:Ultrasonic said:

Millions of customers were moved to new suppliers under the SOLR scheme since last autumn - we are all going to be paying for that for some time to come.6 -
As above, several companies went bust, and the costs are not purely for migrating accounts but also the fact that the new companies were forced to sell energy for less than it cost them. This is nothing to do with the energy companies trying to make more money.kokolino23 said:

I wouldn’t call the new rates a rip off as the companies wouldn’t get away with that but they are going to slap harder than Will Smith. Especially people like me currently paying 25p SC a day. What can we do. Either pay it or get the candles out.0
