Thanks for reply.MWT said:Bearpolar said:I kinda feel stupid now, but they were obviously trying to get me to switch to a variable tarrif, I just thought they were obliged to tell me what there cheapest option was.
This and the equally high cost of switching to a new provider had me in a panic, thank you all again for your time.If you go and read the email they will have sent to you as you approached the end of the fixed tariff you were on, you will see that as well as offering you the cheapest fixed tariff as they are obliged by Ofgem to do, the email also explained that if you do nothing you will be put onto their capped standard variable tariff, which is the cheapest option.Just have to read the whole email, don't just stop at the first part.
I did read the entire email, I rang them to confirm the new tarriff prices and if it was there cheapest.
I was told it was there cheapest, it was a flexible tarriff and there were no others available, what they didn't tell me was my current tarrif still had another month before it ended.
I think they wanted me to switch as soon as possible, but this was a shock to me, I did enquire further by email but got no response.0 -
Just in case there is any confusion, the tariff you gave details of in the first post of this thread is categorically NOT the cheapest tariff available to you and it is not their standard variable rate. The fact your current fix may have a month left to run doesn't change this.Bearpolar said:Thanks for reply.

I just need to add, that the prices I have written above are correct and this is the tarriff I will default to when my current one ends according to there representatives.
I have had two phone calls with Octopus Energy, both times they stated that this was the cheapest available and is in line with Ofgems guide lines and there were no others.
After checking comparison websites and the next cheapest tarriffs were within a penny of the above for new customers I thought I would post in here for some advice.
It's just I can't get any confirmation of what I will be paying when my current tarriff ends, only the above quote. After weeks of no reply to my emails I still don't know, thanks again for your kind replies.0 -
I can only go by what they have told me over the phone on two occasions, this is there cheapest tarriff, is in line with Ofgems guide lines and there were no others available.Ultrasonic said:

I just can't get a reply to my emails and as far as I know this is what I will default to, I just can't get any more information from them about this.
This is what is causing my anxiety, I just don't know, thanks again.0 -
The part in bold is categorically not true.Bearpolar said:I just need to add, that the prices I have written above are correct and this is the tarriff I will default to when my current one ends according to there representatives.

If you enter your postcode in the link below (but don't click Quote) and then scroll down you'll be able to find the 'Flexible Octopus April 2022 v1' tariff that is their standard variable tariff that complies with the price cap. Set the filters to domestic and flexible to make it easier to find.

I'm about 99% sure what you have been quoted is one of their fixed tariffs.0
