    UPDATE:

A very helpful engineer attended on Monday and I told him the full situation.

He said he will replace both meters with 'New' but refurbed ones - He couldn't supply brand new as they don't have them, but these have been installed in someones house and not successfully commissioned the DCC so were taken out and can be tried again? Not quite what I wanted to hear but hey ho

    Gas - G470 682 SMETS2 868
    Electric E470 Type 5424

Can anyone confirm that these are the newest?

The communication box is a ZigBee EDMI Standard 420

During the installation he said he had just received a text saying there are nationwide issues in commissioning meter to the DCC so he will have to book anther appointment in a months time to enable it to connect?

    The saga continues!

If they have installed secondhand meters that do not start at zero, then make sure you have a record of their readings, including a photo.

I'm sure that you have done that already! :)

It should be on the sticker/label next to the new meters, together with the closing reading from the old ones (or possibly just the old gas one, given that the electric meter was on the fritz).

Yes interesting point.. the engineer was very helpful in telling me to expect a call from BG soon, to have a discussion to agree on a final reading for the old erroneous meter.

So what I have done is go back to the last reading I was happy with (back in January) and then multiply my average daily usage by the amount of days passed since then to the meter fitting day.
He said they will give you a figure and its up to you to agree. Iv been on holiday for a week in that time so I have taken that into account and written down a figure I am happy with before they call.

As a side note, he asked me if I wanted him to input the clearly erroneous final meter reading into his computer, (109kwh). He advised against this, because the BG system may assume that my meter has reached all the way to 999999 and then ticked over to 109, giving a HUGE Usage bill!! So he suggested he would tell them that the reading wasn't readable to save a lot of hassle!

Yes, lots of photos taken as advised by the engineer.
When he was putting them in, he did make a comment saying these cant of been in previous installation for long at all :-)
