Hello everyone,
Im employed on a remote working contract and get a working from home allowance. My organisation has an office which were welcome to use in Canary Wharf. I like working from home as I dont spend money 5 quid a day and 1hr commuting. Because of the gas and electric inrease, should I go into the office to save money on those bills?

Depends on whether you need to put the heating on over the summer period! Very much doubt if modern office equipment will cost more in electricity than travelling costs.1

How much energy are you able to save during the hours you are not at home?
Is it more than the combined
- cost for a season ticket
- removal of your WfH allowance
- whatever you value your time that you don't need for commuting
- cost for having a lunch if you don't bring something from home0 -
I cycle to work and so it's cheaper for me to be there. For anyone with transport costs I bet these dwarf energy costs. There will also generally be environmental benefits of less commuting.
(For me the question is largely moot due to the nature of my job in the NHS. I think I've done something like a total of 5 days working from home since the pandemic started!)2 -
It's not just the £5 transport costs and 1 hour of time it's when you are there and the lure of the coffee shop, cheeky lunch and beverage and the choccy machine.
For me well worth staying working from home.1
