British Gas


They’ve now a form you can fill in but you need your individual references for the gas and electricity. If you’re with them because Offgem slung you over then you’ll have no paper bills with the references on. The other thing is they’ve locked me out of our account. Sent a reset link but that doesn’t work because the site won’t load so I can’t find out the references at all.

    Have you checked emails? My EDF welcome email had the account ref on it that I was able to use.
    Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

    I got into my account earlier to add meter readings, but couldn't access the rest of my account. If you've opened a bill from them it may still be in your downloads to get the reference

    The mobile app seems to get you into your account when the website won't. Didn't look like you could add meter readings though, but will allow you to get details.

    I had a similar "panic" last night when I tried to fill in the form, but I had a quick search through my emails and I have several from BG when I was moved over from PFP which all have my account references on them - worth a look.

    Otherwise give it a few days and I'm sure the login issues will pass. They've stated they will honour meter readings for the next little while due to these issues. There's an option on the form to say what date the reading was taken so you shouldn't get charged for any old usage at the new prices.
