we had kitchen ceiling leak from batrhroom and British Gas opened ceiling and fixed leak and when the guy came to put plastering back up he suspected artex asbestos and they did test it was positive, now they're asking me to get asbestos removed and get a clean air certificate. I am unsure if i'm still responsible for asbestos removal though British Gas started repair and found asbestos, would it not be thier responsiblity to get asbestos removed and close ceiling? please let me know if you have experienced similar or any experts can help? Thank you

Not BG's responsibility to remove asbestos from your property.  They wouldn't know it was there until they started the work and would have been within their rights to stop work immediately.  You were actually fortunate that the person doing the repair didn't realise there was asbestos in the artex.

Thanks Tellit i wouldn't have known myself if they hadn't opened ceiling and raised this question, i knew generally it's owners responsibilty but because it's repair done from BG i thought they may do it as part of cover. appreciate your feedback
