Economy 7 meter has stopped on day time

Hi, My Economy 7 clock stopped at 10am on Tuesday, it then moved on for about 6 hours and is now stopped again at 4pm. It seems to move for about 6 hours, stop for several hours then move again.
I presume there maybe a battery which is failing.

If I ring to get it fixed will they (can they) force me to have a smart meter fitted? I don't want one and am happy with what I have

Thanks

Your currently getting all your electricity on the day rate, and any switched E7 circuits won't work - so potentially no storage heaters or hot water, for example.
Which energy company are you with? Most will probably require a smart meter (they're great, you should get one) but BG don't seem to support E7 smart meters so if BG you'll have more chance of keeping your old meter.

Unlikely to be a battery, the electricity timer uses grid power, it is just a faulty clock.

Yes, it will be a smart meter replacement if you are with almost anyone other than BG for the reason QrizB gave you, the real problem is how quickly you can get it fixed given the impact the stopped clock will have...
Do you actually have anything controlled by the E7 night circuit like electric water heating or night storage heaters?

Thanks for the replies which are helpful
Fortunately I'm on a fixed term until April23 / EDF
My son was a heavy user at night and I use it for appliances from 5.30am so it is still worthwhile. But I will check the numbers

I also have a plug in solar panel which provides some in the day (don't know figures, it was a school project and just sits there doing its thing) I'm not sure if I could use this with a smart meter? This is why I'm happy to leave things as they are for now but obviously want the E7 to work

Smart meters and solar PV get along just fine. I suspect that the majority of the solar PV'ers on this forum have smart meters.
