John Pye alternatives

Local auction place to me across a few relatively close sites - they've now put their Buyers Premium up another 3% to 25% with a further 20% VAT on top of that on most lots....making the final price 50% more than the hammer price...
How does the BP compare to other auction houses of similar ilk.

The various houses I use are all over the place, the lowest is 15% including VAT (which is great!)  but 25% plus VAT on the fees isn't unusual - especially if I buy through a third party site like Easylive .

Actually one of my mini rants is that a lot of houses I use went online due to covid via a third party site , upped fees and also mean buyers have to pay an extra 3% or so to the third party. many have decided to stay online entirely and it is far from suitable with the items I buy as I like to browse, I prefer not to rely entirely on condition reports as some houses are better than others at being completely honest. I travel quite a way for some of mine, so it was easy to set off early, browse the lots, have a coffee , then attend the auction and drive home. Now I have to buy 'blind' and still drive to collect.
