Doesn't seem necessary if you have a smart meter

Not necessary if your smart meter works and sends readings to your supplier automatically but if you can take a photo today you will have evidence if it is required.

Also being advised not to submit a reading if you do have smart meter as the systems have all crashed.

There is no point in putting in any readings anyway. No supplier is going to use it , why would they ? Since my two old  suppliers have gone bust last year ( Symbio and Zog )and I m now back with horrible Eon and EDF as SOLR ..
I have put monthly reads in since last October and they have nt used any and they don t intend to until my six month billing period arrives.
They do not show any of my reads on their crappy websites .I know a lot of people are putting in very inflated reads in now to get the old rates before April 1 st  but suppliers will not be that stupid and will just ignore them .They can easily spot an inflated reading and reject it anyway .
BG and Eon and SSE websites crashed today . Game over ..welcome to sky high bills now for a while  and I will be pegging my washing out and using my plan B on/off electric shower method to get it down to 1 minute 15 secs a shower , cost 5 p a shower.. electric lights down to a minimum..No ironing . Heating on this very cold week is down to 3 hrs boiler on etc etc

That's simply not true. But there is no need for the OP to do so.

I have a smart meter but when my fix ended 28th Feb, i can see in my latest bill they still used 'Estimate' read for the period on 1st Mar and smart meter was only read on billing date later in the month..

So i have taken meter reading & photo this time. I will double check when next bill comes in and will query it if i am worse off.

I have smart meters but I took a picture just in case. When I changed my payment method, they used estimated reading for one fuel (but not the other), not sure if I could have saved money if they used the actual reading or not but no way to prove it...

If its working properly no, they have no readings from my smart gas meter yet, but I felt a week worth of gas isnt going to matter (they have reading from 9 days ago), I barely use it.
