Vanquis balance transfer offer

Options
Hi, I recently took out a vanquis card as it was on my clearscore offers saying I could have 9montjs interest free on balance transfers, I've got a few hundred on another card so seemed like a good idea.

Just got the card, none of the paperwork with it says anything about an interest free period and the app won't even let me do a balance transfer at all.

Just called them and they said I have to wait to be offered a balance transfer period as my card is new.

Doesn't seem very fair considering that's the whole reason I took the card and wouldn't want it otherwise as I have another card with a lower interest rate.

Anyone have any experience of this? They couldn't give me any idea of timescale, if it's a few days/a week then it's not really a problem but if it was just a lie to get me to take out the card and they might not even offer me the balance transfer then I'll just cancel it

Clearscore cannot possibly know that you'll be accepted for any offer.  They may well say that you're "likely" to be accepted, and may very well make the wording a little ambiguous, especially if they receive a commission for promoting a certain card.  But it's not until the card issuer themselves have done a hard search on your file that they'll decide whether or not to offer you a particular promotion.
For what it's worth, it's not at all uncommon for people to be offered a lesser promotion than that which is advertised as the "representative" promotion.

Buy your next shopping on your Vanquis card - then pay it off in full - that might encourage the offer to trigger. I still have a Vanquis card (my first credit card) and usually get sent transfer offers or transfer texts at least once a month. Bear in mind the transfer fee and duration of offer period to ensure you can get yourself all paid off in the time given, as the card does have a fairly hefty APR. (How does it compare to your existing card?)

It's worse in Apr terms than my other cards, I have a few but only one with any balance on it. Hence it being completely not needed at all unless I get the interest free period, I'll try using it for something and clearing it off otherwise I'll just cancel it

You do have a cooling off period in which you could exercise and close the account should you not be happy. I have a BT offer on my Vanquis card and that is 9.9% for 6 months with no transfer fee currently. There’s also a money transfer offer but it says to call them for that.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
