I agree with you, Pilot. It looks like they've just done it as a 'look good' PR exercise - copying the FinTechs, but not taking it seriously. Pathetic.
That is all it seems to be, seems they have had Gamcare over as well as they are advising problem gamblers to use the facility. Think the public need to know personally.

My own point of view, and it may be only me, is that I really can't see why banks should be responsible for policing a customers propensity to gamble.....or drink.....or take drugs....or much else really. It is down to personal responsibility.
I can see, however, that is pointless to offer such a service if it can be easily circumvented.
I know what you mean about personal (or at least not corporate) responsibility but the FCA are clear that they expect banks to take steps to protect vulnerable customers, and this includes those susceptible to financial harm for a wide variety of reasons, including gambling.

Case study: Good practice – Product features supporting the needs of vulnerable consumers

Several banks have introduced optional blocks on payments to gambling firms to help consumers who would benefit from greater control of their spending on gambling. These banks have considered the needs of vulnerable consumers in their target market and worked to support them through their product design. They have empowered consumers who may have a gambling addiction to take control. This is also an example of inclusive design.

Yes, I know, but I don't like it you see. That's why it's only my personal point of view, not the FCA's. 😁

I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Will wait and see what the Ombudsman comes back with, end of day that is all that really matters I guess.

Like I say I don't want to wake up one day and read the paper and see a young lad has taken his life following a situation like this. Barclays are dangerous saying they offer this when they clearly do not, if they don't offer it then they should say so - then everyone knows 100% where they stand.
